Mapping the North
NALD and New Writing North have appointed Tom and Rebecca Palmer to carry out a comprehensive mapping of literature activity in the north.
This came about because we were aware, when asking key organisations for their list of contacts, that they were often incomplete and out of date, and when talking to even experienced literature activists, they were unaware of exciting activity on their own patch. We were particularly alarmed by the lack of information on emerging and unfunded players on the scene.
Over the next two months Tom and Rebecca will be trying to contact everyone, from promoters to publishers, from libraries to bookshops, and any significant writers and readers groups. We are trying to be as comprehensive as possible, to make sure you don't get missed out you can contact them with your name, email and a brief line on what you do at mapnorth@nald.org
We feel this is important work to do now, not just to keep the sector informed, but the gathering momentum around the concept of the 'Greater North', the increasing number of organisations working across the the North West, Yorkshire and the North East and further possible changes in the structure of Arts Council England make this a particularly good time to carry out this work.
